The Urban Design Lab and MCI Release Urban Development in Accra, Ghana: An Implementation Toolkit
The Urban Design Lab (UDL) and the Millennium Cities Initiative (MCI) are proud to announce the release of Urban Development in Accra, Ghana: An Implementation Toolkit, a strategic analysis of Accra’s future development. The report was prepared by the Urban Design Lab as an outcome of a joint collaboration with MCI and the Urban Design Program at the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. With an introduction by Earth Institute Director Jeffrey D. Sachs, the volume is the culmination of extensive site analysis and design studies based on criteria related to cultural continuities, social capital and financial resources in the communities of Nima and Ga Mashie, in consultation with local partners. The flexibility of the strategic evidence-based Urban Design approach is intended to facilitate appropriate solutions for increased public and private investment in upgrading these underserved downtown communities, and sets the ground for further design and planning work, in both neighborhoods and beyond.
