Urban Planning and Design Research

MCI began working in Accra, Ghana’s capital and largest city, in early 2010, collaborating with a number of partners – across Accra, Columbia University and multilateral institutions – to address some of the city’s most pressing challenges and facilitate healthy, environmentally sound, economic and social development. Our work has largely focused on urban planning and design, examining and devising solutions to improve infrastructure, water and sanitation issues. The research expanded to include Kumasi, Ghana, in 2012, and it is our hope that some of these research tools and solutions can serve as a scalable model for other urban areas across the developing world.
