Education and Gender Equality
MCI has worked hard to improve access to education and increase gender parity across the Millennium Cities, advocating for more and better educational opportunities at all levels for girls and boys. We have also facilitated trainings for educators, from preschool to med school, and we have organized School2School partnerships, connecting Millennium City schools with students half a world away. We have introduced Girls’ LitClubs in two Millennium Cities, emphasizing literacy and learning while boosting self-esteem. We’re also partnering with Columbia University’s Urban Design Lab, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and the City of Kumasi to create a Women’s and Girls’ Center in Kumasi, which will provide a safe, welcoming space organized and run by women, providing a variety of resources to support women’s and girl’s health, literacy, financial literacy and skills training and counseling.
