Health

The health challenges that the Millennium Cites faced seemed daunting, but MCI was committed to making a lasting difference. Recognizing that more progress needed to be made in improving neonatal and maternal health, we worked with an array of partners to facilitate trainings and donations and to create innovative programs that served as scalable models across the region. We facilitated initiatives focused on eye care, urological and pediatric surgeries, personal hygiene, infectious diseases and emergency care. Moreover, the Millennium Cities benefited from donations of supplies and equipment – from ultrasound machines to surgical tools to essential medicines. Advocacy is another area where we made a difference, and we used the findings from our own research to call for improvements at the regional, national and international levels – from increasing access to safe blood to devising lifesaving programs for mothers and young children.
