Mekelle Girls’ & Teachers’ Lifeskills Training Report
MCI initiated two Girls’ Life Skills Training seminars in Mekelle, whereby each training focused on a specific issue raised by the girls themselves as of particular concern to them: the first concentrated on the urgent need for safe, separate girls’ latrines in Mekelle schools, the second on the importance of hygiene in preventing waterborne disease.
In the course of each training, the girls produced a compelling video on the subject at hand. This time, MCI added a separate Life Skills Professional Development Training for interested female teachers, focused on how to organize, lead and conduct such empowerment and advocacy trainings for girls and how to enable student-centered learning in general.
The report detailing this successful mission, including curricular detail as well as participant feedback, can be found at http://mci.ei.columbia.edu/files/2013/11/Mekelle-Girls-Teachers-Lifeskills-Training-Report.pdf
