Millennium Cities

MCI worked in 11 sub-Saharan cities, largely underserved regional capitals near to the sites of MCI’s sister integrated rural development effort, the Millennium Villages Project. MCI’s careful research gave these regional capitals the information they needed to generate comprehensive, integrated city development strategies aimed at ensuring the delivery of social services and attracting job-generating investment. As each city’s assets and gaps were identified, MCI sought out domestic, regional and international partners to help meet local needs and capitalize on local strengths, thereby facilitating progress toward each city’s achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.
