Kumasi, Ghana, to Hold “Investment Roadshow” October 8, 2013

MCI is pleased to announce the upcoming Kumasi Investment Roadshow, an event to promote investment opportunities in Kumasi, Ghana, in areas such as real estate development, agriculture and agri-business. The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) is organizing the event, with the support of the Regional Partnership to Promote Trade and Investment in Sub-Saharan Africa, an initiative funded by the Government of Finland and implemented by the Millennium Cities Initiative (MCI). It will be held on October 8 at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra.

His Execellency Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the king of the Ashanti, will chair the event. The Mayor of Kumasi, Honorable Kojo Bonsu, MCI Invesment Promotion Specialist Bennet Elvis Niboi and project sponsors will detail investment opportunities in and around the city. Speakers will also include representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland, the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Ghana, the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, KPMG and Otumfuo’s Land Secretariat. Dr. Karin Millett, MCI Senior Researcher/Advisor, will speak on the Regional Partnership’s work in the region.

The forum is one of many investment promotion initiatives undertaken by the KMA in the past two years, in collaboration with MCI and other partners. These efforts include the publication of an investor’s guide for Kumasi, the establishment of the Kumasi City Investment Promotion Unit (KCIPU) at the KMA, the creation of an investment promotion website, www.investinkumasi.com and extensive research to identify viable investment opportunities.

The city administration hopes the event will help showcase Kumasi’s many advantages for both foreign and local investors. Among other things, Kumasi offers access to abundant natural resources, a strategic location and a large and growing commercial market. Since 2008 Kumasi has held several investment promotion events, in Atlanta, Kumasi, London, and New York. The New York event in September 2008 resulted in the establishment of a bamboo bicycle factory in Kumasi, which currently produces bicycles and bicycle frames for the Ghanaian and European markets.

The event is free of charge; however, interested participants are encouraged to register early since seating is limited. For more information or to register for the event, please contact Abenaa Akuamoa-Boateng, Regional MCI Coordinator, at abenaa_akuamoaboateng@yahoo.co.uk or +233 264 236 787, or Bennet Elvis Niboi, MCI Investment Promotion Specialist, at bennet.niboi@gmail.com or +233 243 50 7778.
